sound like it is time to use EZ-Install It is part of WD Data Lifeguard Tools. What it does, I gather, is put a little something in the MBR on the HDD to tell the BIOS - not too sure.
Given that you motherboard is only seeing 8gig of either drive does make it/ its bios the likely source of the problem.
