Well...

Thanks everyone for the unending patience. Turns out that I need to read directions more carefully in the future. I was hooking up the remote wire to the amp into one of the speaker terminals on the new amp.

Usually the simplest answer is the right one. (ie. did you hook everything up correctly?)
